Treasurer’s Report – Bob Mohler has completed the 2016 annual report and copies are available.  Dave Dredge, Bob Mohler and Annette Hammond’s signatures are now on file with the bank.  Sales tax on the Bazaar sales has now been paid in the amount of $815. Bob has made corrections to the December report so some numbers for January are different. Hillendale has made their payment of $750 for the Friday Social sponsorship for the 3rd quarter. We are waiting for the 4th quarter payment.  Bob also reports that $110 has been received from Marylou Tassinari from the sales of greeting cards for $.10 each. Final payments to Martha Strizich have been made in the amount of $800 and $308.  Bob stated that a CD is coming due soon and as there is not sufficient cash in the checking account he recommends that $10,000 stay in the checking account and that the rest be rolled over into another CD. Linda Ausplund as trustee gave her “Ok” and Bob will call trustee Dorothy Carver for the additional “Ok”.  Total assets are $255,548.

Correspondence – none.

  1. Manager/Coordinator Update
    1. Adriane Lee Bird – The bathroom remodel is proceeding on schedule and should be completed my March 15, 2017. The Conference on Aging on May 31, 2017 will be from 9 am to noon and she is starting to publicize the event. She is hoping for 200 people to attend. Also, the Walnut Creek Village has its grand opening in May.  Adriane has met with Mayor Carlston and Gordon Freeman and it appears that Walnut Creek will receive the AARP age friendly community designation (meaning that the Walnut Creek has made a commitment to make the city a great place for people of all ages – i.e. transportation, senior housing, etc.)

There will be some disruption in the parking lot while lighting is installed. This will be between March 27 and May 5th. The staff is alerting the groups that meet at the center and may move classes to Heather Farm.

The Area Counsel on Aging is looking for an additional member and Cindy Mohler is interested and will look into applying.

Senior Rally Day in Sacramento is May 11th. Adriane will get more information to provide to WCSC members about attending.

Laurna Mendoza – the Bazaar group will be doing a March           Madness sale and the new coordinator will be working on this. Laurna brought up the idea of getting updated membership cards. Should they be different each year?  Laurna will look into cost and options.

  • Unfinished Business
    1. Valentine Tea – There were 62 attendees down from last year. The entertainment by Judy Ryken and Kerry Leyden was very well received.
    2. Speaker Series – Hillendale has offered to give a speech on aging. Not an advertisement. Wayne Slater has an idea but he was not present. Bob Mohler will check with the WC Village about speakers. A question was raised as to whether we should pay speakers but not decided. Adriane will look into a speaker on age friendly cities.
    3. Ambassador Openings – all openings are now filled per Annette.
    4. Bazaar Coordinator – Alexandria Milukhin started last Wednesday and jumped right in. She will be paid $650/month. Bob Mohler will work with her on getting a budget (using prior expenses, etc.) Laurna suggested that we let the Bazaar Group know that Kent Clancy is their liaison should they have any concerns.
    5. Holiday Luncheon – Continued discussion about the location. Shadelands is open December 15th. They only charge for the building attendants – not for room rental. Using Wilma Lott as caterer along with her supplying dishes etc is about the same cost as Boundary Oak. Annette will find out Thursday price and this will be discussed next month.

  1. New Business/Reports
    1. Ambassadors Reports – Kent stated he will be visiting the drop in meetings he is representing. Don stated that the Creakers are doing team formations. The season starts April 11th and runs into September. Their general meeting is March 6th. Membership is 200 plus.

Ski Club finally had their first trip after postponements due to weather, etc.

  1. Reimburse Jody for the raffle prize –This is from the Crab Feed for an

$85 trip to Korbell Winery. Kent Clancy moved to reimburse Jody and Bob Mohler seconded it. The motion passed.

  1. Over 90 Get Together – Annette discussed a possible get together in June for members over 90 years old. It would be for those members plus a guest and the van could be used to pick up those in need of transportation. Annette and Adriane will check to further into this idea.

It was brought up that one of WCSC members would be turning 100 this month and would be attending the Friday Social with her 4 daughters (by her request). All agreed that WCSC will buy flowers to be presented. Annette will do this.

  1. Announcements
    1. Trips – Jody stated there will be a trip to the Marin Mammal Center in June, the CornerStone Sonoma trip is moved to July 6th and additionally in June there will be Yosemite and Port of Stockton The France river cruise in September has 14 people signed up at this time. Someone suggested a visit to Rosie the Riveter in Richmond.
    2. PROS – Fred stated that they are working on solar panels for Heather Farm and Boundary Oak. The recent rains have caused over 50 slides in the Open Space and some trails are not usable. The plans for LaRue Park are moving ahead with recommendations. This will be a “passive” park with trails, parking and picnic area. It has lots of good views.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:40 am.

The next meeting will be March 20th at 9:30 am.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeanne Wolf
