Advisory Board Meeting
June 18, 2018

President Annette Hammond called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m. and welcomed members.

Present:  Annette Hammond, Cindy Mohler, Kent Clancy, Wayne Slater, Jody Johnson, Donn Sipes (Creakers), Fred Rentschler, Past President, and Adriane Lee Bird – Staff, Vanessa Rodriquez – Staff, and Fred Weston, Parks & Rec.

  1. The Agenda for the June 18 meeting was approved.

The Minutes from the May 21 meeting were corrected to read – next meeting June 18, 2018.

Bob Mohler read the Treasurers Report – saying Dues are down this year probably due to time of year.  Starting July 1 new members will pay $8.00 instead of $15.00. Renewing members will still pay $15.00.

  1. A. Adriane reported landscaping was installed over the weekend – and the Plaza has

been upgraded to ADA.  The furniture is made of recycled milk cartons.

Adriane also reported “Lyft” is still happening – it is an extented Mini Bus and is

Available for Saturdays and Sundays. Participants must be members and approved.  This is part of the “Trans Pac Grant”. Participants must be mobile – it is not advised for those with wheel chairs. Right now it is in the trial stage – “Lyft” can handle 3 passengers at a time – and is comparable to Uber.

Market Day is a new program which will start August 14 on our new Plaza, featuring fresh fruit and vegetables – it will be held under tent shades and held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.

  1. Vanessa reported Theater Thursday, which was held June 14 was well attended by 65 seniors.

WCSC will host a Health Care Directive clinic in September.

In October we will feature “Car-fit” program – which will have a technician available to make your car “fit you.”

Vanessa also reported the “Giving in Gratitude” was well attended at the Monument Crisis Center – helping people play Bingo and other activities. A reception after was held here at WCSC with wine and cheese.

  1. Adriane reported that City Staff parking has been moved from Library parking

which should help the congestion there. “Permit only” signage is being prepared for the back parking lot which will be enforceable. People have gotten tickets for parking in the double line area.


  1. Friday Social – June 22, Garden Party. Barbara Bacon, Fred Rentschler and Jody Johnson are in charge of arrangements. The Social Hall will be available for food if it is a very warm day and pop-up tents will be in place for shade.
  2. MOU –Adriane has reprinted the Agreement, with changes to part 4 IV. There followed a lively discussion with a few more changes to be made.
  3. Jody spoke about her replacement as Travel Chairman –Javed Dean, who accompanied her on a June 5 day trip. Unfortunately Javed sustained injuries when the bus made a sudden stop and he was thrown into the bus stairwell. He continues to be excited about taking over as Travel Chairman. A profile will be published in the next newsletter as well as a farewell to Jody.
  4. Kent Clancy again announced that all Waivers are in place.



  1. Ice Cream Social to be held July 13 – please sign up to help.
  2. Annette suggested receptionists take time to make “welcome” calls to new members.
  3. Donn Sipes reported the Creakers BBQ is being held tomorrow (June 19).



  1. Fred Rentschler and Kent Clancy attended the PROS meeting – and suggested everyone should watch re-runs of the City Council meetings in order to keep abreast of City happenings.
  2. Fred Weston made a recommendation to the PROS committee to dedicate a second tennis count to Pickle Ball – next to an existing Pickle Ball court
