Contra Costa libraries are back with contactless pickup service.

June 17, 2020

I just got this email from one of my favorite places – the Contra Costa Library.

Beginning Monday, June 15, the Library will offer Front Door Service at 23 community libraries. The service will allow you to pick-up books, DVDs and audiobooks that you have placed on hold.

If you have holds on the shelf from early March, before the Health Order began, you will have the opportunity to make an appointment first. The Library must clear the thousands of holds currently on library shelves to make room for new holds. If you have holds on the shelf, you will be contacted with instructions explaining how to make an appointment to pick up your materials. Appointments are encouraged, but not required. If you come to the library without an appointment you may experience a longer wait.

New holds can be placed beginning on Thursday, June 18.

Once you are notified that your new holds are ready, you will need to make an appointment at your community library and schedule a pick-up time. After arriving at the library for your appointment, you will need to call or text the number on the sign at the front of the building. Staff will confirm your library card number and collect your items. Your holds will be put in a bag with your name on it and placed on a table at the front door. It is a safe, contactless process.

Front Door Service will be available during regularly scheduled hours at 23 locations. See the full list of locations and hours here. All libraries will be closed on Sundays. Front Door Service will not be available at the Pinole, Pleasant Hill or Prewett locations until further notice.

For your safety and that of our staff, Library items will be quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours in between each use. Staff will wash their hands frequently, wear masks and observe social distancing protocols. We ask that you also wear a mask when approaching the front door and observe social distancing guidelines. All returns should be placed in the book drop.

For questions about library services, contact staff via Chat, Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or text questions to (925) 290-7627.

Editors Note:  The chat link also includes a link for texting.
