INFORMATION ABOUT THE WALNUT CREAKERS SOFTBALL LEAGUE

The CREAKERS are a part of the Walnut Creek Seniors Club and one must be a member of the WCSC in order to participate in CREAKER Softball. The CREAKERS are open to all seniors over 50, regardless of skill, gender and ability, who desire to enjoy safe recreational fun in the sport of slow-pitch softball.

This year (2016) we have over 230 registered players, 14 teams and three core divisions; American, National and Continental. It was decided to keep 3 divisions to reduce the diversity of skills/age on a team to make it more enjoyable and still competitive for everyone. The players range in age from 53-94 with an average age of 71.
American Division: Consists of four teams with 15-16 players per team. Players have above average to outstanding skills for playing seniors softball and are able to play safely at a more competitive level. Some players have played competitive softball for many years and many of them still play on tournament teams. In the American Division the players are the “younger”, faster, more agile and play at a more competitive level. Players range in age from 53-76 with an average age of 64.5. These teams play on Tuesdays with games starting at 9:30am.

National Division: Consists of six teams with 15-16 players per team. Players have average to above average skills for playing seniors softball and are able to play safely at a competitive level. Some players have played softball for many years; and some play on tournament teams. In the National Division the players are a little older but still relatively fast and agile enough to play at a competitive but safe level. Players range in age from 53-83 with an average age of 71.8. These teams play on Tuesdays with games starting at 9:30am.

Continental Division: Consists of four teams with 15-16 players per team. Many of the players are newer to softball and/or their current abilities make this less competitive league a more appropriate fit for their skill set. In the Continental Division the players are “older”, slower and generally less agile. However, once on the field we feel like we’re Buster Posey when we get that hit or make that play at home plate! Players range in age from 59-94 with an average age of 76.1 (only 12-years older than the youngsters in the American). In order to ensure that there are four teams, some players are allowed to play on both the National and Continental teams. . These teams play on Thursdays with games starting at 9:30am.
